Matthew Place – Probably named after the Rt. Rev. Dr. Matthew Joseph Brodie (1864-1943). [Christchurch City Council records say this street is named after a Sister Matthew. Lawson Street – Formerly Elizabeth Street. Conway Street was incorporated into Lawson Street. It ran from Queen Street (later Buchan Street) to Hawdon Street.
