High Street – Formerly Sumner Road. Named after the bishopric of Sumner. Re-named Lower High Street and later High Street. Probably named after a street in Oxford, England, The High, as Christchurch itself was named after the college in Oxford. Huanui Lane in the Central City. nothing on library website as it is a new street since the earthquakes. It runs though a new park in a development in an area called East Frames. It is a Fletcher development and naming of this area is coming from Ngai Tahu.
Aynsley Terrace – formerly River Rd Named after Hugh Percy Murray -Aynsley (1828- 1917). Murray-Aynsley arrived in New Zealand in 1858. He owned Riverlaw 1863-1905, a property at what later became 81 Aynsley Terrace. River Road “from the Opawa Bridge to the Rapaki Road” was renamed Aynsley Terrace in 1916.
