Detroit Place – Named after Detroit in the USA. This cul-de-sac serves the Turner’s car auction complex and the street is named because Detroit has a connection with the automobile industry. Strickland Street – formerly Old Christchurch Road -Probably named after Agnes Strickland (1796- 1874). Old Christchurch Road appears on an 1879 map but never in street directories. Strickland Street is one of the “poets and writers” streets of Sydenham, Addington and Waltham named by a committee of the Sydenham Borough Council on 19 January 1880. …
